President’s Message September 2008
Dear Members,
This will be my last time writing in the space as my term as president and time as a board member will end at the annual meeting on October 26th. It has been an intense and eventful six years on the board, especially the last two years as president.
The most significant events were the reconstruction of the golf course and the development of the Pub. Looking back, I do not think we would have survived as a club without these two projects. When I think back to 2004, we were hitting approach shots out of crabgrass to greens consisting of dirt and moss. When we reopened in 2006,our coursewent from mediocrity to excellence. Before the Pub, we had no space for people to go to enjoy a casual meal and cocktail while watching a sports event on TV. Up until 2006those folksused to go to the grille room, if there wasn't a wedding, and mix in with members trying to enjoy a fine dining experience. Fortunately the Pub has been a good solution for the Club--still a work in progress but we're getting there. As president I have tried to focus on families and communication. Family memberships are the key to Brandywine's future. We must continue to foster an environment where families can enjoy the complete club experience, including golf, tennis and swimming, with robust programswhich cater to all ability levels. To improve communication, we have accomplished several objectives, such as the website, this newsletter, This Week at Brandywine, and a direct email connection to the board. I encourage members to continue to communicate with the board in this fashion, because the board needs feedback to serve the members. In closing, I would like to thank all the board members who have served with dedication and integrity, as well as the many staff members whose efforts have made Brandywine Country Club a special place. I wish the next board every successinguiding Brandywine's future. As always we welcome your feedback and input; send the Board an email at board@brandywinecountryclub.net.Patrick Collins
