Golf Course Update

Golf Course Update

By: Ryan Howard, Golf Course Superintendent

Dear Members,

Now that November has arrived and the leaves are falling, I can review the past golf season and send a much deserved ‘Thank You’ to you.

First I would like to thank all members for a wonderful season.  This year has been one of the best on record for amount of good golfing days in a year. It has been my pleasure to be a part of Brandywine Country Club and I am grateful for the opportunity to be your Superintendent.  I have enjoyed getting to know many of you and look forward to meeting any of you I have not met as yet.

I would also like to thank all of you for your efforts on etiquette.  My staff and I have noticed a decline in ball marks not being repaired.  The installation of the new exit ropes in the fairways has been a big success and has kept unwanted cart traffic away from the green surrounds.  Also, your help with divot repair has allowed our staff to concentrate efforts elsewhere.  As we now are getting those issues under control I would like to mention that cart traffic should enter the fairway at 90 degrees in line with your ball.  We are noticing a heavy amount of golf traffic leaving the cart paths near the tee and driving through the rough to the beginning of the fairway.  Thank you for your future efforts to alleviate this issue.

Going forward into the remainder of the fall my staff and I will be working diligently to remove leaves from areas of play.  This can be a frustrating time of year for a golfer when he or she loses balls in play because of the amount of leaves.  The removal of these leaves can be a bit difficult when the course is wet due to the heavy equipment used to remove the leaves.  When possible it will be our goal to give you the cleanest golf course possible.

I hope all of you have enjoyed this golf season and will continue to play when possible.  Have a great upcoming holiday season!
